St. Mark, Grenada – In a strong show of unity and confidence, the St. Mark Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) today officially endorsed Ms. Caris DeGannes as the party's intended candidate for St. Mark.
The endorsement marks the beginning of a new chapter for the constituency, with DeGannes succeeding former candidate Quince Britton, who represented the party in the 2022 General Election.
A respected educator, community leader and lifelong servant of St. Mark, DeGannes accepted the endorsement with humility and a clear commitment to the people of the parish.
Addressing supporters, she reflected on her journey from growing up in the rural community of Belmont to dedicating her professional life to education and community development. She described her decision to enter frontline politics as the greatest risk she has ever taken, but one driven by a deep conviction that public service must always come before personal comfort.
"Politics at its heart is service," she told the gathering. "Service to our fellow men. Advocacy. Being a voice for the voiceless and helping people reach places they never imagined possible."
While acknowledging that St. Mark has never elected an NDC representative to serve in parliament, DeGannes declared that the constituency stands at a turning point.
"I have a dream that after many, many years, the National Democratic Congress will win St. Mark," she said, urging supporters to move beyond hope and into action. "We can't keep dreaming. For that dream to become reality, we must get to work."
The endorsement comes at a time when the NDC continues to build momentum across the country following four years of delivering on its commitment to put people first. DeGannes praised the Government's record of investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, pension restoration and human development, describing it as evidence of a party that believes in empowering its people rather than creating dependency.
For decades, St. Mark has remained beyond the reach of the National Democratic Congress. Today's endorsement reflects a growing belief that the constituency is ready for a different future—one built on service, inclusion and opportunity. With Caris DeGannes as its intended candidate, the party believes the conditions are now in place to make history.
The party thanked members of the St. Mark Branch for their overwhelming support and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the work of engaging communities, listening to the concerns of citizens, and building a stronger future for the parish and Grenada.
