Meet Caris DeGannes

From the Classroom to Community Leadership

An Educator. A Community Member. A Voice for St. Mark.

Biography

Caris DeGannes is an educator and former Acting Principal of St. Mark's Secondary School who has spent an important part of her professional life working with young people, families and the wider community. Her experience in education has provided an opportunity to engage with individuals from different backgrounds, understand the challenges affecting families and appreciate the importance of creating opportunities for every child to succeed. In 2026, Caris stepped forward as the National Democratic Congress candidate for the constituency of St. Mark, bringing her experience in education and community engagement into public life.

Why I Stepped Forward

I have always believed that the future of our communities depends on the opportunities we create for our people.

My years in education gave me the opportunity to work with young people, parents and families. I saw their determination, their talent and their aspirations. I also saw the challenges that can prevent people from reaching their full potential.

I decided to step forward because I believe St. Mark deserves greater attention, better services, more opportunities and leadership that remains accessible to the people.

Our parish has extraordinary resources, from our fertile agricultural lands and fishing industry to our rich cultural heritage and natural attractions. There is tremendous potential to create employment, strengthen local businesses and improve the quality of life for residents.

I want to help turn that potential into practical opportunities for our communities.

My Approach to Leadership

I believe leadership starts with listening.

It means being present in our communities, hearing the concerns of residents, engaging people in decisions that affect them and following through on the commitments we make.

That is why our People's Manifesto was developed through community consultations. Residents helped identify the priorities and shape the plan. I intend to continue that approach through regular village meetings, open communication and public updates on our progress.

My Vision

I see a St. Mark where our farmers are productive, our fisherfolk have the facilities and markets they need, our businesses can grow and our young people have opportunities to develop their talents.

I see safer roads, improved healthcare, stronger communities and a parish where residents can access more essential services close to home.

I see St. Mark taking its rightful place in Grenada's development.

A parish living at the full scale of its potential — impossible to overlook.
